In honor of the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Bangladesh celebrated Mujib Borsho for an entire year. The celebration started on March 17, 2020, and concluded on the same day in 2021.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina officially launched the year-long celebration on the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. This celebration was not just limited to Bangladesh but was also observed globally with the support of UNESCO and the Bangladesh government.

Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, also known as the founding father of Bangladesh, was born into a prominent Muslim family in Tungipara, Gopalgonj district. His dedication to fighting oppression and upholding justice continued to inspire people around the world.

The purpose of Mujib Borsho was to bring attention to the life and ideals of this great leader. The government of Bangladesh took various initiatives to commemorate this occasion, including efforts to eliminate poverty, electrify the country, and provide access to information and communication technology.

Private organizations and communities worldwide also participated in the celebration by organizing cultural programs, seminars, and other events to highlight Bangabandhu’s life and contributions. We were proud to celebrate the legacy of our great leader during Mujib Borsho.

Throughout the year, we celebrate numerous special days, including International Mother Language Day, Victory Day, Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, and others. However, there are some days that hold a more special significance to us, and Mujib Borsho is one such day.

In honor of the 100th birth anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Father of the Nation, the government declared Mujib Borsho to be celebrated for an entire year. Born on March 17, 1920, in Gopalganj Mohokuma, Bangabandhu was the son of Sheikh Lutfur Rahman and Sayera Khatun. He showed remarkable intelligence from a young age and received his primary and secondary education in Gopalganj before enrolling in Kolkata Islamic College and earning a Bachelor’s degree in 1947.

Bangabandhu played a critical role in the Bengalis’ liberation struggle, and his tireless efforts ultimately led to the creation of an independent Bangladesh in 1971. To commemorate Bangabandhu’s role in the independence struggle, various events, such as the return anniversary of Bangabandhu, the founding anniversary of the Awami League, National Mourning Day, and Jail Killing Day, are celebrated every year.

In addition to these annual celebrations, there were also plans to produce short films and documentaries to honor Bangabandhu’s life and legacy. UNESCO also joined the celebration of Mujib Borsho in conjunction with Bangladesh, highlighting the significance of this special day and the important role that Bangabandhu played in shaping the future of Bangladesh.

Mujib Borsho was not just a celebration of the birth of a great leader, but a testament to the enduring legacy of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Through this special day, we remember his contributions and continue to be inspired by his ideals.
